Driver Attempts to Hit Deputy With Car During Chase

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC  (WOLO)- A man is facing multiple charges after he attempted to hit a deputy during a chase Saturday morning.

According to Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrence Bobby Armstrong,27, failed to pull over during a traffic stop on Rosewood and Assembly Street just before 1:00a.m.

Authorities say Armstrong lost control and wrecked on the off ramp on I-126 at Bush River Road.

Officers say when a deputy got out of his car to approach the Armstrong, the suspect put his car back in drive and went towards the deputy. That’s when another officer put his patrol unity in between them and attempted to block the Armstrong.

Armstrong’s vehicle hit the front of that patrol unit, and the chase continued.

Authorities say Armsrong got out of his car and fled on foot  near Zimalcrest Drive and Betty Lane. He was later found by K-9 deputies on Friendly Lane and taken into custody.

Armstrong is charged with attempted murder, disregarding a traffic device, failure to stop, driving under suspension, no seat belt, and leaving the scene.
