Expert and Syria Native React to U.S. Air Strikes

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- Mohammad Saadeddin is a Syrian native who has called Columbia home for about 18 years. The owner of Al-Amir on Main said he’s tired of seeing the people of Syria suffer.

“God Almighty gives us the opportunity to be the leader of the world, I think we need to act upon it, be the big brother who can sit down and say enough is enough and let’s go ahead and sit down and have a real solution,” said Saadeddin.

Saadeddin said he believes the airstrikes are a positive move. “I think it’s a step in the right direction. I mean, I hate to see my country get bombed but I think we need to get everyone around the table, start talking and have the Syrian people decide their fate,” said Saaddeddin.

Experts said many around the world are acknowledging President Trump’s decision to strike.

“If there was an easier moment to retaliate a clear line that should be drawn, not only do our allies agree with this, many in the region agree that this was so egregious that it merited some type of response. I think what surprised everyone was the fact that Trump was willing to use military force to back his words,” said Hamid Khan, Deputy Director of USC’s Rule of Law Collaborative.

Saddeddin said he hopes the strikes serve as an alert to other nations. “For Donald Trump, love him or hate him, he probably acted out of his gut this time which is the difference between a politician and businessman. I hope he got the message out, let’s put it that way.”
