Spur, part of incentive, almost done in Orangeburg

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — A new rail spur that is part of a more than half million dollar state incentive package for a company in Orangeburg is almost complete.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/17xOBO8 ) the spur connecting Universal Trade Solutions’ manufacturing, warehouse and distribution center to the Norfolk Southern line should be finished by mid-July.

The spur was part of an incentive package that brought the company to an unoccupied warehouse in 2011. Most of the almost $550,000 cost of the spur comes from a Commerce Department grant.

United Trade Solutions stores and distributes metal parts for manufacturers. It promised to invest $10 million and employ at least 50 workers. It now employs 40. A company official says that should grow to 100 in the next few years.
