COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The S.C. State Service Commission is encouraging residents to give back this week in celebration of National Volunteer Week.
In 2015, more than 62 million Americans volunteered almost eight billion hours, contributing an estimated $184 billion dollars to our nation’s economy, the Corporation for National and Community Service reports.
National Volunteer Week was created to celebrate those people who have devoted their lives to giving back, and to inspire others to do the same.
Good Morning Columbia’s Grace Joyal talked to Carson Carroll, the Director of the State Service Commission, and Kate Sanders, an AmeriCorps member with the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, about the importance of volunteerism and how engaged South Carolina is when it comes to giving back.
