Bulldogs Add Guard To Roster For Upcoming 2017-18 Season
ORANGEBURG, SC (SCSU) — South Carolina State head men’s basketball coach Murray Garvin has announced the signing of guard Justin Jones to a National Letter Of Intent (NLI) for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
“First off I give credit to my assistant coaches for an outstanding job for identifying top talent from around the country and most importantly from South Carolina, “said Garvin. “We have a first class coaching staff and none of this would be possible without their dedication to our vision and SC State University.
Jones (6-2,180) a guard out of Myrtle Beach, SC played his prep career at Johnson High School in Gainesville, GA, where he led the Knights to back-to-back region titles in 2013 & 2014. He earned All-Region MVP honors and was named 2nd Team All-State, along with reaching his 1000th scoring point plateau.
He played a year at Bull City Preparatory Academy in Durham, NC where he averaged 24 points per game for the Bulls. Last season Jones played at Cowely County Junior College from one of the premier JUCO conference’s in the nation, where he led his team to a 17-15 finish.
Before choosing South Carolina State, Jones was recruited by Costal Carolina, Missouri State, North Carolina A&T, and Radford just to name a few.
Garvin stated, “Justin Jones is just what we need. He is a proven shot maker that will instantly help fill the void of our graduating seniors. He can score on all three levels and will bring instant scoring upon his arrival at SC State. We really look forward to coaching him in a South Carolina State uniform.”
