Your Voice, Your Vote: Hamilton Grant and Rebecca Madsen hope to represent NE Richland County

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — With Representative Ivory Thigpen choosing to run for Senate, House District 79 opened up for a new face.

Two candidates will face off in November to represent the northeast corner of Richland County, a mainly residential district.

South Carolina State alum Hamilton Grant hopes to represent House District 79,the area he calls home.

While they have different approaches, both Hamilton Grant and his challenger, Rebecca Madsen, believe that education needs to be improved statewide.

Madsen and Grant agree about the need to improve the state’s healthcare system and both also want to help the area’s small businesses thrive in a largely residential district.

Grant adds that he hopes to join fellow Democratic lawmakers at the statehouse who are pushing for a Hate Crimes Bill to be signed into law.

Next week, we will head down to House District 89, currently served by Republican Micah Caskey.
