Bulldogs power way to victory over Hornets on Homecoming

ORANGEBURG, SC—Graduate quarterback Eric Phoenix threw for a game-high 341-yards going 18-of-21-0 and four (4) touchdowns to lead South Carolina State to an impressive, 69-35, win over Delaware State in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener Saturday inside Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium on Willie Jeffries Field.

Defensive lineman Jayden Broughton posted a monster day on defense leading the charge with six (6) tackles, five (5) tackles for loss for 17-yards and a game-high four (4) sacks for 14-yards and two (2) forced fumbles.

The Bulldogs racked up an outstanding 631-yards total offense on the day.

Two SCSU receivers posted over 100-yards receiving with Caden High leading the way with four (4) receptions for 132-yards and touchdowns, while teammates Einaj Carter chipped in 114-yards catching with six (6) catches. Justin Smith-Brown came up short of a 100-yard performance with seven (7) catches for 99-yards in the win.

Backup quarterback Ryan Stubblefield was a perfect 5-of-5 for 87-yards and a touchdown.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State face MEAC foe and #20 ranked North Carolina Central on Thursday (Oct. 31) inside O.C. Dawson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm and will be televised live on ESPNU.
