The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) announced a Halloween Curfew for sex offenders on probation/parole.

Columbia, SC (WOLO) — Halloween is just days away and the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services is making sure your little ghouls and goblins get treats as opposed to dangerous tricks. The agency is announcing their curfew for sex offenders during Halloween night.

According to the department, all registered sex offenders are required to adhere to a statewide curfew from 5:30-9pm Thursday October 31. During those hours, all offenders who are under supervision for crimes against a child will not be able to participate in any activities that entice minors to come to their homes and will not be allowed to attend carnivals, and or Halloween parties. In addition, porch lights and exterior lights must be turned off, they will be able to leave their homes during the restricted times, nor will they allowed to distribute candy.

Officials say sex offenders will be under surveillance checks conducted by agents who will make home visits Halloween night.

SCDPPPS officials say in 2023, 624 home checks were made by 174 agents during Halloween night statewide. Authorities say six arrests were made Halloween night, while a total of 11 were made in the month of October.
