Scam alert for Fairfield Co. residents

Fairfield Co., S.C. (WOLO)– A scam alert for residents of Fairfield Co.

Deputies with the Fairfield Co. Sheriff’s Office say someone is calling county residents impersonating a deputy.

Investigators say the scammer claims there is a warrant or some other legal issue and insists the only way to clear it up is to send money.

Deputies say this is a scam!

The number being used is (803) 598-8958.

Authorities say they have determined the calls are coming from overseas.

Deputies say they will never ask for money over the phone.

They say if you get one of these calls hang up immediately and contact the Fairfield Co. Sheriff’s Office at 803-635-4141
