Jets release former Gamecock Bruce Ellington

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (WOLO) — The New York Jets released former Gamecock wide receiver Bruce Ellington Saturday, just one day after signing with the team.

According to the team, Ellington was released after failing a team physical.

Ellington, a fourth-round draft pick in 2014, was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, then picked up by the Jets Friday.

The former Carolina receiver has had tumultuous pro career, missing the entire 2016 season with a torn hamstring. He played in 26 games for the 49ers between 2014 and 2015, catching 215 yards and two touchdowns.
