Panthers sign Davis to extension, Samuel begins on-field work

CHARLOTTE (WOLO) – The Carolina Panthers have resigned former All-Pro linebacker Thomas Davis to a one-year extension, which keeps him under contract with the only franchise he’s ever played for through the 2018 season.

Davis, 34, led the team in tackles in 2016 with 132 tackles on his way to becoming the franchise-leader in that statistic. He enters the new season with 1,086 in total before the former first round pick out of Georgia takes part in his 12th season.

The Panthers left for Nashville Tuesday to hold joint practices with their next preseason opponent, the Tennessee Titans, on Wednesday and Thursday. The two sides will face off on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Earlier in the day, rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel took part in individual drills for the first time since the opening day of training camp as he slowly comes back from a strained hamstring.
