COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – To call Saturday a full day for Gamecocks football would be an understatement.
Will Muschamp’s team took to Williams-Brice Stadium for their second closed scrimmage of fall camp, where backup kicker Parker White booted a game-winning 53-plus yard field goal as the garnet and black simulated a fourth quarter. The goal was to improve and fine tune situation work, as 2017 starts in two weeks when USC travels to Charlotte to face NC State.
“I thought the first scrimmage was cleaner as far as our operation on both sides,” said Muschamp after the session. “Communication, just the little things that we need to clean up. We still have two weeks before the first game, we still have two great days to work on South Carolina as an open practice Monday and we’re expecting a huge crowd.”
The Gamecocks will work out in front of fans at Williams-Brice Monday at 7:30 p.m. for “Fan Appreciation Night”.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do on South Carolina before we even turn to our first game.”
Hours after removing pads and gear, the team arrived at Colonial Life Arena for “Fan Appreciation Day”, where they joined the other fall sports programs on campus to give back, sign autographs, and take pictures with their biggest supporters.
Earlier in the day, good news came to the program in the form of a verbal commitment from four-star wide receiver Josh Vann. The 5’10” prospect from the Class of 2018 out of Tucker, Ga. announced he’s planning to sign with the Gamecocks over SEC East rival Georgia.
The decision was announced by Vann following his first game of the season, scoring three touchdowns for Tucker in an overtime win over Kell at the new Georgia State Stadium, which used to be Turner Field in Atlanta.
