Man arrested for fatal Tuesday shooting in Sumter County

 

 

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies have arrested a man for a fatal Tuesday shooting, said the sheriff’s office.

According to investigators, 35-year-old Demetrius Fleming was in a fight with his acquaintance 56-year-old Chris Abrams when Fleming shot him.

The shooting happened in the area of Brent Street and Whitehorse Road around 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 14.

Witnesses told investigators that the two men were acquaintances and before the shooting they were involved in a physical altercation.

Additionally, witnesses told investigators that Fleming allegedly produced a gun and shot Abrams.

Abrams later died at the hospital due to his injuries.

Fleming is charged with several crimes including murder.

He’s being held at the Sumter County Detention Center where his bond was denied.
