Man blames cough medicine for murdering his wife

RALEIGH, N.C. (WOLO)-

A former bible college man is expected in court today after being charged with the murder of his wife. Police say Matthew Phelps called 911 early Friday morning. Reportedly, Phelps told dispatchers he had a dream and when we woke up the next morning found his wife on the floor with stab wounds. Phelps described the scene to police saying there was blood all over him and a bloody knife on the bed admitting that “I think I did it.”
Sobbing over the phone, he also told police he had taken cold medicine that night to help him sleep probably more than he should have.
He and his wife, Lauren Phelps, had been married less than a year.
She was laid to rest Monday at just 29 years old.
