COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Here’s a gift for a baby…you’re not expecting.
Amazon caught a handful of customers off guard Tuesday by sending emails informing them of purchases that were made from their baby registry.
Many of those receiving the email don’t have a baby registry or even plans to have a baby.
The email from the Amazon Baby Registry Team, adorned with an adorable diapered tot crawling across the top, informed recipients that “a gift is on its way” and invited recipients to check their Thank You List to keep track of gifts that had already been purchased for them.
The message included a link, which for some redirected them to a page to set up a registry, others were taken to a broken link.
While the email looked like a phishing email, it was in fact from Amazon and none of the links have been found to be suspicious.
According to CNN, Amazon did not immediately respond to their request to comment, but when one recipient called customer service, the company acknowledged that the emails went out and described it as a “technical issue.”
