City of Columbia celebrates winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper Scholarships

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–Over the weekend the City of Columbia celebrated the winners of the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keepers Scholarships and the Honor the Dream Food Drive.

The winners were announced at the 37th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Service that happened on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The city accepted applications from Richland School District One’s elementary, middle, and high school’s students.

City officials say the Dream Keeper Scholarship Awards program recognizes displays of service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

 

2025 MLK Dream Keeper Scholarship Winners:

Elementary

  • $100.00 1st Place: Tevaughn Samuels, Hyatt Park Elementary School
  • $75.00 2nd Place: Amina White, Caughman Road Elementary School
  • $50.00 3rd Place: Deasia Richmond, A.J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School
  • $25.00 Honorable Mention: Sophie String, South Kilbourne Elementary School

Middle School

  • $250.00 1st Place: Sophie Peay, Hand Middle School
  • $175.00 2nd Place: Zoe Bouknight, Hopkins Middle School
  • $100.00 3rd Place: Layla Gregg-Jennings, Alcorn Middle School
  • $75.00 Honorable Mention: Avery Jasnow, Crayton Middle School

High School

  • $1000.00 1st Place: Halen Moss, Dreher High School
  • $500.00 2nd Place: Jayiana Moody, Eau Claire High School
  • $250.00 3rd Place: Azzaziyah Slater, C.A. Johnson High School
  • $100.00 Honorable Mention: Ja’Nyle Jones, Lower Richland High School

The City of Columbia, Richland School District One and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation held the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive benefiting Harvest Hope Food Bank from November 11, 2024 to December 9, 2024.
