City of Columbia celebrates winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper Scholarships

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–Over the weekend the City of Columbia celebrated the winners of the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keepers Scholarships and the Honor the Dream Food Drive.

The winners were announced at the 37th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Service that happened on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The city accepted applications from Richland School District One’s elementary, middle, and high school’s students.

City officials say the Dream Keeper Scholarship Awards program recognizes displays of service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

2025 MLK Dream Keeper Scholarship Winners:

Elementary

• $100.00 1^st Place: Tevaughn Samuels, Hyatt Park Elementary School
• $75.00 2^nd Place: Amina White, Caughman Road Elementary School
• $50.00 3^rd Place: Deasia Richmond, A.J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School
• $25.00 Honorable Mention: Sophie String, South Kilbourne Elementary School

Middle School

• $250.00 1^st Place: Sophie Peay, Hand Middle School
• $175.00 2^nd Place: Zoe Bouknight, Hopkins Middle School
• $100.00 3^rd Place: Layla Gregg-Jennings, Alcorn Middle School
• $75.00 Honorable Mention: Avery Jasnow, Crayton Middle School

High School

• $1000.00 1^st Place: Halen Moss, Dreher High School
• $500.00 2^nd Place: Jayiana Moody, Eau Claire High School
• $250.00 3^rd Place: Azzaziyah Slater, C.A. Johnson High School
• $100.00 Honorable Mention: Ja’Nyle Jones, Lower Richland High School

The City of Columbia, Richland School District One and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation held the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive benefiting Harvest Hope Food Bank from November 11, 2024 to December 9, 2024.

2025 MLK Honor the Dream Food Drive Winners:

• Elementary Category:  Congratulations to Burton Pack Elementary- 636 pounds
• Middle School Category: Congratulations to Southeast Middle School- 209 pounds
• High School Category: Congratulations to Richland One Middle College- 406 pounds
