SLED seeking public help to solve 1998 fatal club shooting in Orangeburg

 

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is seeking help from the public in gathering information related to a fatal club shooting that claimed two lives in Orangeburg almost 27 years ago.

On Sept. 18, 1998, Jonathan Simpkins and William “Tanzy” Halyard were both killed following an altercation at Club Maliks off Magnolia Street in Orangeburg.

The altercation began inside the club before spilling out into the parking lot, where it turned into a fight and four people were shot. Simpkins and Halyard were pronounced dead by the Orangeburg County Coroner while the two other victims survived their injuries.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to email SLED at tips@sled.sc.gov or call 866-472-8477.
