Harvesting Heritage returns to SC State Museum
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As part of Black History Month, South Carolina State Museum is taking its Harvesting Heritage series to the Lowcountry.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, the event series will be held at the Penn Center on St. Helena Island.
Museum officials say the program will honor the historic contributions of Black South Carolinians and their descendants in the Lowcountry.
The event will include a discussion moderated by award-winning Chef Amethyst Ganaway, featuring emerging griot Tendaji Bailey, Gullah matriarch Sara Green, acclaimed chef BJ Dennis, and Gullah cultural steward and artist, Victoria Smalls, according to a press release.
The menu for the evening features small plates with:
- Collard green salad with Anson Mills Sea Island Red Peas
- Okra Stew with Rice
- Smoked Shrimp Dip on Crackers
- Mr. Ron’s Gullalicious Pound Cakes
- Don Luchi Prosecco and Siwani Spirits
Doors open for the event at 6 p.m. and the event will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
