Lexington County Coroner identifies human remains found in wooded area in Cayce
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified human remains that were found in a wooded area in Cayce, said the coroner’s office.
On January 19, a Dominion Energy employee reported that they found what they believed to be human skeletal remains in the wooded area off of Charleston Highway in the Cayce area of Lexington County.
Cayce Police arrived to the scene first and then called the Lexington County Coroner’s Office to the scene.
The coroner’s office confirmed that the remains found were human.
According to the coroner’s office, they went back to the scene the next day on January 20 to complete the recovery with a certified anthropologist.
The remains have been positively identified as Wayne Alan Marcolini, 62, of West Columbia.
Marcolini was reported as missing to the West Columbia Police Department in January of 2023.
The cause and manner of his death is currently pending.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the Cayce Police Department, and the West Columbia Police Department are continuing to investigate.
