RCSD Charge Teen With Murder of Woman

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC- Deputies have arrested and charged a 17-year-old with murder on Wednesday.

Deputies arrested Kendall A. Smith in connection to a the murder of a woman whose body was found a week earlier.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said on September 13th Smith struck the victim in the upper body multiple times with an object killing her.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said that the victim, Leona Monique Pack, 44,  died as a result from homicidal violence. Sheriff’s Department investigators learned that there was a physical altercation between family members in the home for most of the evening.

Later that night when Smith returned home, he was told of the incident. Smith then followed the victim outside to confront her and that’s when he struck her multiple times in the upper body.

Deputies say Smith then placed the victim’s body a short distance away in the trash; the body was discovered on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 by an employee cleaning up the area.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Smith has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
