Columbia City Councilman Cameron Runyan will host an open forum on homeless shelter operations, amid growing controversy and concern over Columbia’s ongoing homelessness problem.  The town hall meeting will take place Monday, September 9, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Earlewood Park Community Center, Earlewood Park, located at 1113 Parkside Dr. This will be a Q-and-A session for those interested in homeless services and also for the general public who may have concerns or additional questions.

This meeting is open to the public.

Meanwhile, Pastor of Christ Central Ministries, Jimmy Jones, prepares his staff members on the operations of the homeless shelter beginning September 24.  The winter shelter will be converted to a round-the-clock service center and will service as a central location for the homeless.  Via the center’s services, the homeless will be offered food, clothing, shelter, restroom facilities and transportation to and from job training appointments, medical service facilities and/or substance abuse treatment.  The winter shelter previously was operable five months out of the year and during evening hours only.
