Haley scheduled to announce latest Cabinet pick

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is slated to announce a Cabinet appointment. The governor plans to reveal her latest agency appointment at a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. A news release from Haley’s office didn’t say which agency she was going to discuss, but Department of Corrections Chief Bill Byars announced last month that he was going to retire at the end of September. Byars led South Carolina prisons for three years and served as the leader of the state Department of Juvenile Justice before that.
