Political cartoonists Ariail, Palmer discuss work

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Political cartoonists Robert Ariail and Kate Salley Palmer are slated to discuss their work at a presentation sponsored by the University of South Carolina. Herb Hartsook, director of the South Carolina Political Collections at the Hollings Library, says Wednesday’s scheduled discussion is free and open to the community. It begins at 5:30 p.m. Hartsook says the event provides an inside look at what motivates political cartoonists, their targets and the subject matter. Ariail is published in more than 600 newspapers through the United Features Syndicate. Palmer is a former nationally-syndicated cartoonist for The Greenville News. An exhibit of political cartoons is also on display at the library until Dec. 20. Those wishing to attend the panel discussion should call 803-576-6016 or email libdev@mailbox.sc.edu.
