Spurrier Talks To Clowney About UNC Performance

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said he has talked to Jadeveon Clowney following his performance against North Carolina Thursday night.
Clowney was heavily criticized for his sluggish play against the Tar Heels.
The defensive end said he battled a stomach virus the night before the game and was only able to eat a banana and a few grapes for his pregame meal.
Spurrier was asked about Clowney’s play against UNC during his portion of the SEC teleconference Sunday.
“We all watched what happened out there and obviously Jadeveon was not up to par. We’re not going to give any excuses. I think Jadeveon learned that the camera’s on him every play,” said Spurrier. “We know he can rush the passer better than he did the other night.”
Spurrier said he knew his star player was tired throughout the game.
“Jadeveon, obviously, he was pooped. But I think there was other reasons that he was pooped than that he’s not in good shape,” Spurrier said. “We talked after the game, but what I said to Jadeveon after the game will remain between me and Jadeveon.“
