Gamecock Water Tank Coming to Cayce
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “It’ll be an improvement over what’s up there now and and plus it will sort of highlight the city a little bit,” Jerry Huckaby, golfer.
Just up the road from downtown Columbia, the City of Cayce’s water tank sits on Highway 321. The thirty-two year old tank is part of the Par Tee Driving Range.
But, it’s starting to look a little rundown, something that will soon change.
The organization, Public Works of Heart, will transform the exterior of the tank.
“It really will be a high quality project that people can have to not only be thankful for the sense of beauty, but have the sense of pride in it,” says Mayor Elise Partin, City of Cayce.
The Lexington County Gamecock Club is partnering with Public Works of Heart, founded this year, on the project. It will be the organization’s first.
“This is so big and so everybody would be able to see this and the whole point of Public Works of Heart is to get as many people as possible involved in beautifying their community and giving back to the community,” says Will Bryan, Public Works of Heart
And you can be a part of it. For $25.00, you can purchase one of the 10,000 squares that will cover the tank. That’s right, you can have a stake in the 22,000 square foot, 88 foot high water tank that holds up to two million gallons of water.
And transforming the ordinary tank into a masterpiece is also saving Lexington County money.
“We have a cycle of how we take care of the water tanks and this one was due to be painted, so this will take care of that painting,” says Partin
And it may even put it on the map as a South Carolina landmark.
If all 10,000 squares for the project sell by November 1, 2013, Harvest Hope Food Bank will receive a check of up to $50,000 to feed the Midlands hungry.
We’re told once the project is complete, the tank will not need to be repainted for 15 years.
