Gamecocks Switch Spots In New Polls

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) – The South Carolina Gamecocks moved up one spot in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and down one spot in the Associated Press poll following the games of Saturday, Sept. 28, it was announced today.

The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) are ranked 13th in this week’s Associated Press poll, after being ranked 12th a week ago. They moved ahead of Oklahoma State (3-1), but were leapfrogged by both Oklahoma (4-0) and UCLA (3-0). In the Coaches’ poll, Carolina moved up to 12th after sitting at No. 13 a week ago, passing Oklahoma State in that poll.

The Gamecocks are coming off a 28-25 win at previously undefeated UCF. After trailing at the half, 10-0, South Carolina scored 28 straight points to take a commanding 28-10 lead in the fourth quarter.

Alabama (4-0) continues to lead both polls, followed by Oregon (4-0). Clemson (4-0) and Ohio State (5-0) split the 3-4 rankings, with Stanford (4-0) fifth in both polls, just ahead of Georgia (3-1).

Carolina returns home this weekend when they host the Kentucky Wildcats (1-3, 0-1 SEC) in an SEC Eastern Division matchup. The Wildcats are coming off a 24-7 home loss to Florida. The Gamecocks lead the overall series with Kentucky by a 16-7 margin, including a 7-3-1 record at Williams-Brice Stadium. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, with FSN handling the broadcast. Bob Rathbun and Tim Couch will be in the booth, with Elizabeth Moreau working the sidelines.

The Gamecocks have been ranked for a school-record 53-consecutive weeks, tying Stanford for the fifth-longest current streak, behind only Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.
