WATCH: Blythewood girls, Ride View boys capture state championships

On Friday, Blythewood girl’s basketball made history by winning the program’s first state title.  TheBengals defeated Summerville, 62-56, in the Class 5A division I girls basketball state championship.
“We knew we were supposed to be here,” said Blythewood junior guard Chase Thomas. “We’ve been saying it since the first day of practice. We’ll be here March 7th, and today we did it.”
The late game Friday night featured region rivals Blythewood and Ridge View in the Class 5A division I boys basketball state championship.
Friday’s clash marked the third time the programs met this season.
The Blazers won a third and final time, capturing a sixth state championship in program history.
Head coach Joshua Staley and Ridge View are back-to-back state champs.
“We worked really hard to get back to this point,” Ridge View senior guard Malachi Cooper said. “It was expected … It feels great.”
