Remains of Columbia native World War II soldier to be buried at Fort Jackson

 

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The remains of a Columbia native World War II soldier will be buried at Fort Jackson on Friday, March 14.

The funeral for U.S. Army Private First Class Arthur W. Crossland Jr., starts at 1:30 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church on Polo Road.

He will be buried with full military honors at 3 p.m. at the Fort Jackson National  Cemetery.

The 19-year-old soldier was killed in action in March of 1945 while battling German Forces in France during Operation Nordwind.

Crossland was accounted for by the Defense Pow/Mia Accounting Agency in 2024.
