Little done in Charleston where old bridges stood
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — It’s been six years since the $632 million Ravenel Bridge opened to link Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
But little has changed on the Charleston side of the river where the old twin Cooper River bridges once stood.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the new bridge was built farther upriver and when the old bridges were removed, there were plans to build new homes, stores and offices. Those plans were side tracked by the Great Recession.
One project that is moving forward is a new community outreach center. That center is being built by South Carolina State University using federal money.
The center will offer graduate equivalent degree classes, nutrition education and other services.
