SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies say an interstate traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a New York man for multiple charges, including resisting arrest.

Deputies say while patrolling I-95 on Wednesday morning, March 26, deputies saw a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit and performed a traffic stop.

After getting permission to search the vehicle, deputies performed a pat-down of the passengers.

The suspect, William Joseph Parker, resisted and struggled with deputies before being detained, according to deputies.

During the vehicle search, deputies say they found materials providing evidence of financial identity fraud and financial transaction card theft.

Additionally, deputies say they found a controlled substance, cocaine, and heroin.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says Parker admitted to being on federal parole for conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Also, a records check revealed Parker was wanted by the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office for fraud and forgery.

After deputies placed him under arrest Parker was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and his bond was denied.

He remains in the detention center and the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office has requested extradition.
