COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia PD’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that happened Wednesday afternoon at Blossom/Assembly Streets, say police.

Officers say the male victim was hit by a male pickup truck driver.

The victim who was identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Nathanial G. Baker of Virginia was taken to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.

The driver who was identified as Rosali Fernandez Cruz and his occupants allegedly left the scene after the collision happened.

A Traffic Safety Unit officer captured and arrested the driver.

He was charged him with hit-and-run resulting in death, failure to give information and render aid, failure to yield the right of way, and driving without a license.

After researching his name in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, CPD officers learned that Fernandez Cruz was wanted by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

CPD has communicated with ICE regarding his arrest.

Columbia PD say a judge denied Fernandez Cruz bond after a scheduled appearance in court on Thursday afternoon (April 3).
