SCDC: Former Broad River Correctional Officer arrested on multiple charges

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Corrections arrested a former Broad River Correctional Officer on multiple charges.

Zyaire Lopez, 25, is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, providing contraband to prisoners, criminal conspiracy and misconduct in office.

Investigators say on April 8 he’s accused of bringing marijuana, tobacco and rolling papers into the institution hidden in a food container.

Then leaving it in a trash bag in an inmate living area. Lopez has since been fired.
