Limestone University may be forced to shutdown without immediate financial assistance

Gaffney, SC (WOLO) — The President of Limestone University met with Students and employees in person Wednesday over concerns with the future of the facility. This announcement was posted on the school’s Facebook page where the university went on to say they may be forced to make some major adjustments, including possibly shutting down if they are not able to get immediate financial assistance.

According to the post, the facility is currently in need monetary support to the tune of $6 million dollars. The alternative according to their social media announcement would require the school,  which currently offers in person and online classes, would be forced to move to a completely online model, or in a worst case scenario begin ceasing operations altogether.

According to the post, some of the school’s current financial strain comes from several reasons including enrollment decline, rising costs, and long standing pressures facing small, private institutions.

Limestone University’s Board of Trustees is set to meet April 22 to further discuss what the next step will be for the 179 year institution.
