CCSO: Former Calhoun County finance director arrested for embezzlement
CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C.(WOLO)– According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s former finance director was arrested for embezzlement.
The sheriff’s office says Travis Mitchell Crocker is being charged with embezzlement of public funds and misconduct in office.
Finance officials with Calhoun County say they discovered transactions that appeared to be personal and inconsistent with normal government use.
Sheriff Summers says after being made aware of the transactions, investigators worked and determined that the charges were inappropriate.
“As elected officials, we are held to a higher standard when it comes to the public’s trust. That standard is extended to anyone who is entrusted with tax dollars or authority to act in the interest of our citizens, and when that trust is violated you will be held to account,” Sheriff Summers says.
Crocker has since been terminated but was serving as the Calhoun County Finance Director since November 2024.
After his arrest, he was released on bond, but has to return to court on May 16.
