FBI: Online scams collected more than $16 billion

(CNN)– Americans lost more than $16-billion to online scams last year. That’s according to the FBI’s 2024 internet crime report.

There were nearly 860,000 reports of suspected cyber crimes. The top three were phishing scams, extortion, and personal data breaches.

The most loses involved investment fraud, particularly cryptocurrency. Those losses exceeded six-and-a-half billion dollars alone.

The most complaints came from adults over the age of 60.
