2.3 magnitude earthquake hits Elgin

 

 

ELGIN, S.C. (WOLO)– There was a whole lot of shaking going on in Elgin on Thursday morning, April 24.

Officials with the U.S. Geological Survey say a 2.3 magnitude earthquake took place at 1:16 this morning just over three miles east of Elgin.

According to the Geological Society of America, the town often gets hit by earthquakes due to Elgin sitting between two major strands of the eastern piedmont fault system.
