COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– SC State Treasurer Curtis Loftis has released a statement on the Office of Inspector General review on Friday, said the Treasurer’s Office.

Loftis’ statement said, “Despite claims by Senator Grooms, our office has fully cooperated with all state agency partners and independent audit firms since this matter surfaced, stemming from the former Comptroller General’s $3.5 billion restatement in the 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report”.

He also stated that since taking office in 2010, he has upheld the principles of accountability and transparency on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina.

In the Friday, May 2, statement Loftis said he welcomes the review and the opportunity to evaluate the Treasurer’s Office actions independently.

Loftis also denied claims that the Treasurer’s Office participated in a deliberate effort to mislead the legislature.

“Following the March 27th Senate Finance Constitutional Subcommittee hearing, I proactively met with Inspector General Brian Lamkin and State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel and expressed a willingness to have them thoroughly investigate the State Treasurer’s Office regarding the reported $1.8 billion accounting discrepancy, said the statement.

Additionally, Loftis said he is confident the findings will reflect the Treasurer’s Office integrity and diligence throughout the matter.
