Sumter Co. deputies arrest man accused of chasing, shooting at repo agent
Sumter Co., SC (WOLO) — The Sumter County deputies have arrested a Lynchburg man they say chased and then fired shots at the person attempting to repossess his car. Thursday morning deputies say they were alerted to shots being fired along Two Mile Road where a victim said they attempted to repossess a car and was actively being chased and shot at by the suspect.
Authorities say the caller told dispatchers the suspect, 30 year old Md Z Islam Epte was shining a light with a red dot on it at them and trying to run them off of the road as they traveled north along Interstate 95. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), along with the assistance of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office ( FCSO) positioned various units in and around mile marker 164. Once the Epte drove into view deputies conducted a traffic stop took him into custody.
Officials say when they searched his car they located an AR-style rifle as well as a handgun. Epte was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and later released on $10 thousand dollar bond. Deputies say the incident remains under investigation.
