Two young men killed in car-truck collision near Gilbert

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – The victims in a fatal collision between a car and tractor trailer rig have been identified.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Carlis Epting, 27, and Harley Epting, 23, were killed around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday night at Pond Branch Road and I-20 near Gilbert.

Authorities said Carlis Epting was driving east on Pond Branch Road when the car collided with the side of a tractor trailer as it turned left onto the road from I-20.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The coroner said Carlis Epting died at the scene; Harley Epting was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. Both men were from Batesburg.
