Gamecocks Move Up To #13

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — The University of South Carolina football squad climbed one notch in both major polls released on Sunday afternoon.

The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) are ranked 13th in this week’s Associated Press poll and check in at No. 15 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. Last week the Gamecocks were No. 14 and No. 16 in the respective polls.

The writers and coaches agree on the top six teams. Defending national champion Alabama (8-0) continues to lead both polls, just ahead of Oregon (8-0) and Florida State (8-0). Ohio State (9-0) and Baylor (7-0) round out the top five with Stanford (7-1) ranking sixth in both major polls. SEC Eastern Division-leading Missouri (8-1) checks in at No. 9 in both polls.

The Gamecocks have been ranked for 58 consecutive A.P. polls, tying Stanford for the fifth-longest streak in the country behind only Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.

The Gamecocks are coming off a solid 34-16 win over SEC Western Division foe Mississippi State. The win was the 15th in a row for the squad at Williams-Brice Stadium, tying the school record for the longest consecutive home winning streak, set from 1978-80. Carolina will enjoy a bye week this week before it wraps up its SEC regular season on Saturday, November 16, when it hosts the Florida Gators (4-4, 3-3 SEC).
