Pro-life advocates call on legislators to bring up Human Life Protection Act for vote

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Pro-life advocates gathered at the State House on Wednesday, May 7, to call on legislators to bring up the Human Life Protection Act for a vote.

Members of “Students for Life Action” held a news conference this afternoon.

The measure they are supporting would ban all abortion and establish criminal penalties for anyone who performs an abortion.

There would be no penalties for a woman who undergoes an abortion.

ABC Columbia spoke with the president of the organization who helps mobilize pro-life students across the U.S.

She has a direct request for Speaker Murrell Smith and Representative Weston Newton.

Right now, the state has a six-week abortion ban with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

ABC Columbia reached out to Speaker Smith and Chairman Newton’s office but did not yet receive a response.
