Job Offer Scams Victim Out of Thousands

Columbia, SC (WOLO) —If you’re in the market for a job be aware. The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs says someone is posing as a hiring manager for jobs that don’t exists.

According to officials the scammer is asking people for their bank account information to buy computer equipment for the position.

The caller claims they’ll reimburse the victim through a direct deposit that never comes.
In the one case reported, the victims was cheated out of 4 thousand dollars.

Officials say there are plenty of valid job offers out there, but if one sounds suspicious and raises a red flag it’s better to be safe rather than sorry.
