SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies have arrested a teenager after recovering firearms following a chase last week.
On Thursday, May 8, deputies say a car attempted to avoid a nearby checkpoint and fled at high speed.
After the car stopped at a home on Artesian Drive, the driver got out and ran away.
Then, deputies heard a gunshot and saw two Ar-style rifles being discarded from the vehicle.
A17-year-old passenger was detained and said they accidentally discharged a gun while attempting to throw the rifles away.
They face several charges while the driver is still at large.
