Search ends after missing USC student’s body found in river

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The search for missing University of South Carolina (USC) student has come to an end, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Officials say 18-year-old Donaven Dempsey of Spartanburg  was identified as the body found in the Congaree River on Sunday, May 25.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is continuing its search for a missing 18-year-old University of South Carolina student, says CPD.

Donaven Dempsey was reported missing earlier this month after leaving his hometown of Spartanburg and returning to Columbia.

Investigators say Dempsey was last seen walking on Hampton Street toward West Columbia.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt, gray jacket with neon green lining, black pants, and black & white high-top Air Force 1 shoes.
