A group of Richland Co. teenagers face burglary, weapons charges
Richland Co., SC (WOLO) — A group of teenagers have been detained after Richland County deputies say they were called to a burglary in progress Thursday night. Once they arrived at a vacant home in the 500 block of Longtown Road around 10:40 p.m. deputies say they could hear several voices inside and as well as noises suggesting the property was being damaged.
Officials say three of the teenage suspects came out of the residence and were taken into custody immediately, while two additional teenagers were located as deputies walked through the home to make sure it was clear of suspects. RCSD says all of the youngsters were male and ranged in ages from 14, 15, and 17 years old.
Authorities say after searching to residence more thoroughly they discovered backpacks one officials say contained a gun, and another holding a knife authorities say they admitted to using to damage the property. All five of the teenagers have been charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree. One of the 17 year old suspects deputies say admitted to having the gun was also charged with Unlawful Carry of a Firearm. Another 17 year old they say was in possession of a knife was additionally charged with Malicious Injury to Personal Property. The young men were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
