Justin Collin Adams, 36 of Greenville, was charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault and battery, according to jail records. Now he faces an additional three counts of assault and battery in the first degree according to a newly released affidavit.

The original incident began at approximately 12:50 p.m. on May 1, when Adams was riding in the back seat of his mom’s car and he pulled the knife on her and threatened to cut her according to court documents.

His mother, in fear for her life, exited the car and ran away while he sped off toward Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan’s Island.

At a high rate of speed, Adams then reportedly drove into the playground, struck a 12-year-old, slammed into a teacher, who was thrown over the hood and roof, and then hit a 10-year-old, who was then pinned under the vehicle when it came to a rest on the sidewalk, according to court documents.

The car’s airbags then deployed and Adams fled the scene on foot to a nearby residence, where he ran to a boat lift and hid in the area until law enforcement found him using a helicopter.

Adams was last being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
