RCSD: 2 juveniles, 2 adults arrested for murder

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Sheriff’s Department says two juveniles, and two adults have been arrested on murder charges.

Deputies say on Sunday, June 8, around 7 p.m., they responded to the area of Percival Road and Quail Run Lane in reference to a shooting that just happened.

Before arriving to the area, deputies were advised by dispatch that a vehicle had hit a wall in the same area that a gunshot was hear.

When deputies arrived, they found that a silver Toyota was involved in a collision. The driver was found in the vehicle deceased.

The victim was identified as Jayson R. Cooke, 17, of Columbia by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

While at the scene, deputies learned that four people left from the location of the Toyota when the gunshot was fired, says RCSD.

All four people were tracked to one of the lots located in the Mobile Home Park in the 700 block of Percival Road by RCSD K9 units.

They all surrendered to deputies without further incident.

Investigators say the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone bad, and the vehicle collision happened as a result of the brakes disengaging when the victim was shot.

Makenzie Shine, and Sa’riya Green were both charged with murder.

Elon Williams, and the 15-year-old were both charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Also, Green who was on an ankle monitor at the time of the murder was charged with tampering with electronic monitoring device in February 2025 and booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

She was released on a personal recognizance bond for that charge. Law enforcement say the shooting is still under investigation.
