U.S. imports from China fell 20%
(CNN)– U.S. imports from China are dropping at a rate not seen since the start of the pandemic.
Imports from China fell more than 20% last month.
That’s according to a new report from Descartes, a company that analyzes data from Customs and Border Protection.
American ports have seen big declines in cargo volume since President Trump slapped tariffs on most U.S. imports in April.
But even though tariffs on Chinese exports were lowered from 145% to 30% last month, most goods that arrived in May were booked under the higher tariff rate.
This comes as top U.S. and Chinese officials are holding trade talks in London on Monday, June 9.
