HS Student Arrested, Accused of Bringing Gun to School

Columbia, SC (WOLO) —-A Richland County teen has been arrested after deputies say a school administrator at Columbia High School found a gun in his backpack Monday morning.
According to authorities, 18 year-old Sonnett Williams, was taken to the main office after reports of an odor of marijuana on him. After searching his backpack they discovered a .357 handgun.
A School Resource Officer (SRO) was contacted immediately. Williams was then placed under arrest and charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
Sheriff Leon Lott released a statement regarding the incident saying, “It is unfortunate that Williams chose to violate the school policy and commit such a serious crime.”
Williams has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
