Columbia Police to host gun turn in event

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police Department is partnering with the mother of a gun violence victim to have a gun turn in event, said the dept.

The police department is partnering with the mother of Julian ‘JuJu’ Keel, Vonyetta Watson.

Julian ‘JuJu’ Keel was killed on June 2, 2024, a high school graduation party on Colonial Life Boulevard.

On Thursday, July 24, people can drive up, and drop-off guns with no questions asked at Second Nazareth Baptist Church at 2300 Elmwood Ave from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Drop-off instructions:

  • Ensure weapon is unloaded
  • Enter via Read Street
  • Inform law enforcement of weapon location
  • Law enforcement only removes weapon
  • Exit via Heidt Street
